Week 21

The intestines have developed enough that small amounts of sugars can be absorbed from the fluid the baby swallows and will be passed through the digestive system. Almost all of the baby's nourishment, however, still comes from me through the placenta. (Los intestinos se han desarrollado lo suficiente que pequeñas cantidades de azúcar pueden ser absorbidas por el bebe y pasan al sistema digestivo. Week 20th

I am halfway there! The baby has grown significantly from that first dividing cell and now weighs about 11 ounces and measures about 6.3 inches. The baby is taking up increasing room in the uterus, and continued growth will put pressure on my lungs, stomach, bladder, and kidneys. The baby's skin is thickening and developing layers. Hair and nail growth continue. (Ya estoy a mitad del camino. El bebe ha crecido perceptiblemente desde que era solamente una célula y ahora pesa aproximadamente 11 onzas y mide 6.3 pulgadas. El bebe esta tomando mucho espacio en el útero y su continuo crecimiento pondrá presión en mis pulmones, estomago, vejiga, y riñones. La piel del bebe se esta engruesando y desarrollando capas. El crecimiento de su pelo y uñas continua).

Week 19th

The baby is now covered with a white, waxy substance called vernix caseosa, which helps prevent delicate skin from becoming chapped or scratched. Premature babies may be covered in this cheesy coating at delivery. The baby is still tiny, but this week brings the development of brown fat, which will help keep the baby warm after birth. During the last trimester, the baby will add more layers of fat for warmth and protection. (El bebe esta cubierto con una substancia blanca llamada “Vernix Caseosa,” la cual ayuda a prevenir su piel delicada a que se pele o raspe. Bebes prematuros pueden estar cubiertos con esta protección cremosa cuando nacen. El bebe esta aun muy pequeño, pero esta semana desarrollara gordura café, la cual ayuda a mantener el bebe calientito después de su nacimiento. Durante el ultimo trimestre, el bebe agregara mas capas de gordura para calentamiento y protección).
